Broncos TE Tony Scheffler - X-rays of foot reveal no further damage

The Rocky Mountain News reports on Scheffler’s sore foot. “”We know there’s not another break in there,” coach Mike Shanahan said Thursday. “You can see that on the X-rays. But there’s something in there that keeps him quite sore, and, hopefully, with a couple weeks in the boot, he’ll come back full speed and we don’t aggravate the injury.”

Monster Take: Good news that there isn’t any further damage, but this isn’t the kind of thing you want nagging you throughout the season. Unless he comes back healthy and pain free for training camp, we’d look at other options for your fantasy roster.

Broncos TE Tony Scheffler out for four weeks

The Denver Post reports that, “Scheffler is wearing a boot on his foot and will be out four weeks after experiencing recurring soreness in the foot he broke during last year’s passing camp.” Full story here.

Monster Take: Scheffler played all last season after surgery to repair the broken foot. This is probably just some early season soreness.

Broncos WR Brandon Marshall Runs Routes

The AP reports that Brandon Marshall ran routes, but didn’t catch passes on Monday. “June 22 will be his first day he’s able to catch the football, which gives us plenty of time before we start our summer ball,” coach Mike Shanahan said. Full story here.

Monster Take: This is a good first step toward returning to fully practicing. We’ll keep an eye on him in June and let you know when he is back to catching balls.

Broncos RB Travis Henry has Pulled Hamstring

The Rocky Mountain news reports that Travis Henry pulled his hamstring while running a 100-yard dash during Broncos strength and conditioning drills. Full story here.

Monster Take: Hamstring pulls are fairly commonplace during early conditioning. This one doesn’t worry us much at this point.

Broncos QB Jay Cutler Diagnosed with Diabetes

The Denver Post reports, “Cutler recently was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.” “People need to understand this is very treatable,” said a Broncos source. “Jay’s going to be fine.” Full story here.

Monster Take: Other professional athletes have functioned at a high level with diabetes. We expect that Cutler will diligently treat the disease and should be fine. Best wishes to him as he makes the necessary adjustments.

Broncos WR Brandon Marshall’s Injury More Serious Than First Reported

NFL.com reports that “Denver Broncos star wide receiver Brandon Marshall severed an artery, a vein and a nerve in his forearm along with tendons to five muscles in a freak accident last weekend.” Full article here.

Monster Take: Marshall is now expected to miss three months before he can begin strength training. Marshall and his teammates were earlier joking around about this injury and it didn’t seem like it was going to be much of an issue. Three months recovery is a much different matter. We’ll have a better idea about lingering effects of the injury at the start of Broncos camp at the end of July.

Broncos WR Brandon Marshall Injures Arm

Adam Schefter of the NFL Network reports, “In the most bizarre off-season injury to date, Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall said he slipped on a McDonalds bag and wound up with his arm wrapped in a cast.” Full article here.

Monster Take: What a crazy story. At this point the injury does not seem to be serious and our expectations are that Marshall will have a great year with the Broncos in 2008. The Broncos might want to take a look at the “dangerous activities” clause in their contract to see if it needs re-working.
