Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown has good showing

Ronnie Brown picked up 47 yards on 12 carries, with one touchdown, Thursday night against the Saints. The AP quotes HC Tony Sparano’s reaction. “That’s really what I needed to see because I haven’t seen that,” Miami head coach Tony Sparano said. “I’ve only seen a couple of carries and when you’re only getting a couple of carries, it’s hard to have that kind of swagger. … As he got going, he felt pretty good and it was nice to see him score.” Full story here.

Monster Take: Ricky Williams has been getting a lot of buzz this pre-season, but this game will give Brown a little boost. This is still looking like the two will be splitting carries. We expect Williams to start off the season stronger, but that Brown will get stronger as the season goes on.

Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown day to day with sprained thumb

The Palm Beach Post reports, “Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown suffered a sprained right thumb in Saturday’s exhibition game at Jacksonville and is “day to day,” coach Tony Sparano said today at his daily news conference.” Full story here.

Monster Take: The injury isn’t as big a deal as Ricky Williams getting a chance to continue to gain favor with the coaches with strong showings with the first-team offense.

Dolphins Undecided on Starting RB

The Miami Herald reports, “Coach Tony Sparano said he has a good feel for what running backs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams can accomplish in games but is figuring out which would be better suited as the starter.” Full story here.

Monster Take: Sparano also likened the situation to Dallas last year with Marion Barber and Julius Jones. Williams has been looking good during pre-season, but we believe that once Brown hits his stride he will be the main guy here. However, this talk of comparing the two backs to Barber and Jones has us concerned about a more balanced split of the carries.

QB Pennington cut by Jets, added next day by Dolphins

ESPN reports, ” One day after his release from New York, he found what looks to be a starting job with the Miami Dolphins. Pennington, 32, agreed Friday night to a two-year, $11.5 million contract that pretty well locks him into starting.” Full story here.

Monster Take: Pennington goes from battling for the starting spot with the Jets to the Dolphins where he will almost certainly start. While he doesn’t have much upside as a fantasy QB, he will most likely be an NFL starting QB which makes him at least worth keeping an eye on as a fantasy backup.

Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown continues progress

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports, “less than eight months after sustaining a season-ending knee injury, Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown took part in 11-on-11 team drills for the first time this week, a sign that points to a full return by next month’s training camp.” Full story here.

Monster Take: Brown continues to beat the timelines usually set for ACL recovery. He states his goal is to be 100% healthy for the start of the season. This is a step in that direction.
